    YOUR JOURNEY

    Picture This

    The Arrival

You step off the plane in Miami. The warm air hits you immediately - nothing like back home. You grab your bags, take a deep breath, and realize: this is actually happening. You're about to start working at one of the most prestigious resorts in the United States.

    Week One

Your first morning commute ends at the ocean. Literally. Acqualina sits right on the sand in Sunny Isles Beach. Your American colleagues welcome you, walk you through the operation, and you start learning how a Forbes Five Star resort runs from the inside. The standards are high. The training is real. And you're part of it.

    Month Three

You've found your rhythm. You know the regulars by name. You've handled VIP check-ins, navigated high-pressure dinner services, or managed front desk operations during peak season - depending on your role. Your manager trusts you with more responsibility every week. This isn't an internship where you watch from the sidelines.

    The Transformation

By the time your program wraps up, you've lived in Miami, trained at a world-class resort, and built skills that set you apart from every other candidate back home. Your resume now carries the weight of Acqualina's name. You've experienced American culture firsthand. And you return home a different professional than when you left.

    A DAY AT ACQUALINA

    Your Day in Paradise

Let's walk through a typical day. Not a hypothetical one - this is what your life actually looks like when you work at Acqualina.

    6:30 AM

The Alarm Goes Off - But You Don't Mind

You open your eyes and sunlight is already flooding through the window. Back home, mornings meant grey skies and a rushed commute. Here, you step outside and feel warm, salty air on your skin. You grab a cafecito from the corner shop - you've picked up that habit from the locals - and take a second to realize where you actually are.

    7:30 AM

    The Commute You Never Expected

Maybe you grab an Uber down Collins Avenue, windows down, watching the turquoise water blur past. Maybe you hop on a bike and weave through the palm-lined streets. Some mornings it's the bus, headphones in, watching Miami wake up around you. However you get there, the destination is the same: Acqualina - 4.5 acres of oceanfront luxury, and this is your workplace. Not a stock photo. Not a dream board. Your actual, everyday workplace. The valet team waves you in. They know your name by now.

    8:00 AM

    You're On

If you're in Front Office, you're greeting guests who flew in from New York, Sao Paulo, London. You learn to read people, anticipate needs, handle the unexpected with a smile. If you're in F&B, the kitchen is already alive - prep for lunch service at one of Miami's most acclaimed restaurants. The standards are sky-high. And that's exactly why you're here.

    12:00 PM

    Lunch With the Team

You sit down with your American colleagues - the front desk manager who's been in hospitality for 15 years, the sous chef who trained in New York. They ask about your country, share tips about the industry, tell you what it takes to build a career in the U.S. These aren't just coworkers. They're the people shaping your professional future.

    4:00 PM

    The Moment It Clicks

Today, your supervisor pulls you aside. 'You handled that situation really well.' Maybe it was a difficult guest, a service recovery, or a complex reservation. Whatever it was, you solved it. You're not just observing anymore - you're contributing. You feel the difference between reading about hospitality and actually doing it at the highest level.

    5:00 PM

Clock Out, Walk to the Ocean

Your shift ends and the beach is right there. Not a 30-minute drive - literally steps away. You kick off your shoes, feel the sand between your toes, and watch the sun drop toward the horizon. Some of your fellow interns join you. Someone suggests dinner in Aventura. Someone else wants to check out Bal Harbour. This is a Tuesday.

    8:00 PM

    Miami After Dark

Tonight it's tacos in Wynwood, surrounded by street art and live music. Last week it was salsa dancing in Little Havana. The weekend before that, a boat day in Biscayne Bay. You're not just working in Miami - you're living it. And when someone back home asks what your life is like right now, you almost don't know where to start.

    YOUR WORKPLACE

    Employer Pre-Paid Program Fee

Acqualina prepays your program fee on your behalf, then recovers it through monthly paycheck deductions over the program. Here's the full breakdown.

This placement uses the Pre-Paid model. See how it compares →

Host employer sourcing and matching is included in this program pricing. There is no separate placement fee. Our standalone placement service is an alternative route for candidates who already have their own J-1 sponsor, never an add-on to the prices here.

    FAQ

    Common Questions

How long does the visa process take?

The typical timeline from application to arrival is 2-4 months. This includes placement confirmation, DS-2019 processing, visa interview scheduling, and travel arrangements. We guide you through every step.

Is housing provided or do I find my own?

Housing is not provided by the employer. GCB and the host employer share housing leads - typically shared apartments near the property with other J-1 participants. Some host employers offer organized or subsidized housing at lower cost; this varies by property. Budget around $800-$1,200/month for a shared room.

Do I need to speak fluent English?

You need conversational English - enough to communicate with guests and team members. For the Front Office role, fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is required in addition to English.

What happens after the program ends?

You return home with a world-class resume line (Acqualina Resort - TripAdvisor's #1), practical luxury hospitality skills, and an international network. Many alumni move into management roles or continue their career at top hotels globally.

    Who is eligible to apply?

We accept candidates from all nationalities. Students and recent graduates (within 12 months) in hospitality/culinary programs qualify for a J-1 Internship. Professionals with a degree + 1 year experience, or 5+ years in hospitality, qualify for a J-1 Trainee program.

What does the paycheck deduction model mean?

Acqualina prepays the bulk of your program fee on your behalf and recovers it from your paychecks during the program. Internship: $3,000 program fee - $700 down payment up front, remaining $2,300 recovered via 11 monthly paycheck deductions of ~$209. Trainee: $3,200 program fee - $700 down payment up front, remaining $2,500 recovered via 11 monthly paycheck deductions of ~$227. You are also responsible for the application fee ($199), U.S. visa fee ($185), SEVIS fee ($220), and airfare.
